Fix Your Eyes On Jesus

Hebrews 12:1-2
When you call yourself a disciple of Jesus Christ, people want to watch. How do you act when you are
not at church? How do you act around people who have one foot on earth and the other one on the edge
of hell? If they do not see the grace and love of Jesus in you, then you might as well go ahead and
shove them into the pit because they don’t want anything you’re selling.
We want to call ourselves Christians without the added pressure of trying to live up to the standard of
scripture. We don’t want to bother anyone and we don’t want to be bothered. So, we waste our life
chasing things that glorify us instead of glorifying God. We want to live the American dream because
its been sold to us for years. We are born into a nice family, get saved as a teenager, work hard to get
good grades so we can get into a good college. Go to college to get a good job. Get the job, find a
husband or wife – buy a nice house, nice car, white picket fence, 2.5 kids and a dog. Long weekends
and expensive vacations, growing old together, sitting on the front porch watching the sunset and die in
a non painful way barely escaping hell because you don’t give a rip whether or not your life on this
earth counts for eternity. You are too busy buying into the lie of bigger, better, badder, latest and
greatest. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of crap.
If that is the view we have of the Christian life, then the enemy has been successful in putting scales on
our eyes preventing us from seeing the truth. There is nothing wrong with life, liberty, and the pursuit
of happiness if our pursuit of life, liberty and happiness is found nowhere else but Jesus Christ.
