Who has ever had a Homer Simpson moment? A DOH! Moment.
A lot of times, we confuse trouble with tests. Trouble is something we bring upon ourselves based on decisions we made. We do something stupid and then ask God why we are in the situation that we are in. God does not put us in stupid situations – he allows us to make stupid mistakes but he does not put us there.

God uses tests as a way to test our character and our faith. We are going to look at three people who went through tests. Joseph was his father’s favorite son. He had dreams about him and his brothers that one day his brothers would bow before him. His brothers did not take well to this. Joseph was thrown into a pit and sold into slavery. He was brought up in Potipher’s house. Potipher’s wife wanted to sleep with Joseph but he refused. She lied and said that Joseph tried to sleep with her. Potipher became very angry and had Joseph thrown into prison.
Hezekiah was the king of Judah. He loved God and he ran his kingdom in such away that God would be proud of. One day Hezekiah was sick to the point of death. The king of Assyria was threatening war. So, Isaiah goes to see Hezekiah. Isaiah says to Hezekiah, “Thus says the Lord. Set your house in order for you will die.You will not recover.”I doubt very seriously that was the news Hezekiah wanted to hear.
Our last person to look at is Job. Job was rich – Donald Trump rich. The Bible says that Job was blameless – he feared God and turned from evil. So Satan goes up to God…”You have blessed Job, that is why he fears you. If you stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, he will surely curse you to your face.” God said, “Fine, Everything he has is in your hands.” Satan took away all his ox, his donkeys, his sheep, his servants and his camels. Then he sent a wind to the oldest son’s house. The house collapsed in on itself and killed all ten of Job’s children. Then Satan attacked Job with a disease like leprosy. His wife’s only advice was to tell Job to “curse God and die.”
Tests – nobody likes them but they will always be a part of our life.
