How The Last Year Has Changed My Life

A year ago today…I became a dad. My life was no longer about just me and my wife. We now have a son. A little boy that God has ordained that we raise in a biblical manner according to the Scripture.

I remember the whirlwind of events that took place April 22, 2010. I would not trade those moments for anything. Watching my son grow, learn to pick up things, learn to walk, and begin to try and form words is a wonderful experience.

I have said before that I believe that there are things in the Bible that God lets remain hidden until certain life experiences happen. There are verses that I have memorized, heard, and read hundreds of times but never fully grasped the meaning of them until my son was born. As the last year has unfolded, verses on raising children, teaching, and family take on new, deeper meanings. I am thankful for these new insights and understanding from Scripture.

I have also learned what I believe to be the most valuable lesson I could have learned in the last year. Through reading the Bible and being a father, I have learned more about the verses that tell us about our Heavenly Father.

I understand the new responsibility God has placed in my life. I have embraced being a dad the way I have embraced being a husband. I look forward to many years of spending time with my son and watching where God leads him. I look forward to taking him to Falcons games, Disney World, and other fun places. I hope to instill in him a love for learning and books. I hope he will grow to see that books are far better than any movie or television program.

More than anything, I want him to learn that his relationship with Christ is just that….his relationship with Christ. Not mine or his mother’s, or his friends’…his. I want him to learn that there is a joy and a freedom that comes from chasing hard after Christ.

Bryson,

You are not yet old enough to read this but I want you to know that I love you very much. Your mother and I will do our best to raise you in a manner that honors and glorifies God. I look forward to watching where God leads you on your journey. Give your life to Christ and He will lead you to be more like Him. You are a blessing and great joy in our lives. I am thankful for every moment that your mom and I get to spend with you. We pray for you often and know that God is going to use you to accomplish many things for His glory. Be obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit. People will fail you and disappoint you. God will never forsake you or lead you astray. Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.

I love you my son. Happy Birthday.

Daddy
