Audacity In Prayer

I have not yet read Steven Furtick’s book Sun Stand Still but it is on my list. What inspired this blog post was an article from the February 2011 issue of  Homelife Magazine.

On page 23 begins an article written by Steven.  After reading it, I have some things I would like to share.

I cannot help but to believe that some Christians pray but do not believe that God is willing or powerful enough to work on their behalf. How sad this is! Why would you pray at all if you do not expect God to answer? Why would you pray if you don’t think God is capable of helping you in your current situation?

God is all knowing, all loving, all powerful, all Sovereign. The God that raised Jesus from the dead and sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in each blood covered disciple is the God I pray too.

The problem that I really see in my own life is not whether or not I believe God is powerful enough or willing enough to work on my behalf, because I do. The problem in my life, is that I don’t pray audacious prayers.

This is where I begin to wonder if I am missing out on some of God’s greatest blessings. Am I missing out on God working? Am I missing something that God does not want me to miss? I know that Joshua in Joshua 10 prayed the Sun Stand Still prayer fully believing that God was going to answer so that Joshua could finish the task God had given him to accomplish.

According to the article, Steven says that the key to praying these audacious prayers is “to live with the audacious faith that expects the impossible to come to pass.” So, I need to pray and then live expecting like what I just prayed is going to happen. The human mind cannot wrap around a thought or an idea that incredible. However, I am at the place in my life right now, where I am ready to see God work and do amazing things through me, my family, my friends, my staff, my church and whoever else God chooses to use.

God,

I am ready to live a life praying and believing that you are capable of doing the impossible. I ask for the faith to pray audacious prayers and fully believe that you will bring to pass audacious prayers that coincide with your Scripture. I am ready for you to blow my mind and work in ways and grow my faith like I have never seen you do before.

Amen.
