The original title of this sermon is This Life.

Acts 5:17-29

vs. 17-18 The temple mafia regrouped and came back with reinforcements. They had to go get backup.

jealously – The Sadducees were jealous. This is not a righteous jealously. They are not jealous for God’s glory or name or the advancement of His kingdom. They are jealous for their influence, their power, and their kingdom. They are afraid of losing control.

vs. 19 The angel opened the prison doors. Not the apostles. Some of you are in a situation where you are trying to get out of it. You are used to hearing things like, “you dug your hole, now dig your way out.” You feel alone…desperate…trapped. Whether you put yourself in that prison or not, you cannot free yourself! God opens  prison doors!

vs. 20 This Life – This regenerated, redeemed, new life. This Life. There is only one way to get it. You must be covered by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ which starts your radical life transformation. You were dead in your sin now you are ALIVE in CHRIST.

Christ draws you. At the point of regeneration, you begin what is known as your sanctification process. Because of Jesus you can be transformed by the renewing of your mind – Romans 12:2 Because of Jesus you can love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself – Matthew 22:37-39 Because of Jesus you can die to yourself and take up your cross – Luke 9:23 Because of Jesus you can find security in Christ in the midst of persecution 1 Peter 4:12-14 Because of Jesus you do not have to fear man but fear (holy reverence) God – Matthew 10:28 Because of Jesus you can renounce all things and follow Jesus – Luke 14:33

It’s not about religion, it’s not about a checklist, it’s not about a bunch of rules and traditions. This is all about your life.

When you are regenerated, the Holy Spirit invades your spirit and starts the process of conforming every area of your life to be like the life of Christ.

vs. 21 The apostles had no fear of the temple mafia. They were obedient out of their reverent fear of God. We should have the same reverent fear for God.

vs. 21-25 The angel was nice enough to close the doors to the prison. It is evident now that God has worked on the apostles behalf.

vs. 26-28 The temple mafia accuses the apostles of defiance. Rightly so. The apostles willingly disobeyed a direct order. Why?

vs. 29 The apostles response.
