*Speaking the Word to no one but Jews
The church in Antioch did not know about Peter’s involvement with what happened at Cornelius’ house. They did not know God’s plan was to redeem both Jews and Gentiles.
*In Antioch, the term Hellenists refer to Greek speaking gentiles.
vs. 21 The Lord continued to expand His church.
vs. 22-23 The church in Jerusalem sent Barnabas to go check out what was happening in Antioch.
vs. 24 This is the character of Barnabas.
vs. 25-26 Barnabas and Saul went to Antioch to make disciples.
vs. 27-30 Famines all over the known world meant that the famines hit the Roman Empire.
Claudius reigned from AD 41-54. About half of his reign was plagued by famine.
The church in Antioch took up an offering for the church in Jerusalem. One church is not another church’s competition. They are on the same team.
vs. 26 The disciples at Antioch were the first ones to be called Christians.
