A Spiritual Checkup

FaithPoint Logo 1Matthew 28:19-20

How do we accomplish this?

Better yet…Why are we not accomplishing this?

We cannot accomplish something God wants us to do when our lives are out of whack.

We cannot teach somebody how to be a disciple of Jesus Christ when we ourselves are unwilling to be a disciple or we don’t know how to be.

First and foremost you cannot make a disciple if you are not a Christian. If Jesus is not Lord of your life, quit playing the game, take off the mask and repent.

Second – Grab your Bible and go somewhere quiet where you have no distractions. Pray like David in Psalm 51. Search me O God and know my heart. Let God reveal to you everything that is not right in your life.

Third – Deal With It!

You cannot fix a problem by running from it. Be honest with yourself and God. Leave your destructive habits behind. Whether they are unhealthy or downright sinful. This is the decision that makes you or breaks you as a Christian. You cannot live the abundant life when you are in bondage to sin.

This is your spiritual checkup.

Pray that God will reveal to you what you need to change.

How do you view yourself? Who Are You? As a loser? As a winner? As a sinner? As a saint? Are you letting other people dictate who you are becoming? Do not be the person that anyone else wants you to be! Be the person God wants you to be. To do this, we must feed upon God’s Word and see ourselves the way God sees us. Holy.

What place does the cross have in your life?

Is it old and meaningless? Put yourself at the foot of the cross. Kneel down. In the midst of the crowd’s cursing and crying – look up to the One in the middle. You look into His eyes full of pain and yet somehow love. Do you feel what He is feeling? The cold, hard stakes driven through His wrists and feet and the blood flowing down. Feel the agony of being separated from His heavenly Father as He absorbs your sin into His body.

Are you at the place where you can look up at Him and turn Galatians 2:20 into your prayer?

Lord Jesus, I am being crucified with You. It is no longer I who live, but You who lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in You, who loves me and gave yourself for me.

We are reminded to daily take up our cross and follow Him.

What do you count as significant?

Prioritize everything that has meaning. What you write down will reveal what you believe is important.

Are you relying on your strength or God’s?

John 15:5

Apart from me you can do nothing.

What price will you pay for integrity?

2007 – Josephson Institute of Ethics did a survey of college students.

74% cheated on an exam

38% have stolen something from a store in the last 12 months

93% have lied to their parents

Our lives are not as clean as we try to make them appear to be.

One of the keys to keep a clean life is to allow the Scriptures to “wound” you on a daily basis.

Hebrews 4:12,13

All things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

Nothing can be hidden from God. Let God cut away everything that isn’t Christlike in our life.

Do you really love other people?

Or do you treat them according to your prejudices and stereotypes?

Do you care that people all around you are going to hell?

What will you leave behind in this life?

How will people remember you?

Are you doing God’s will every moment of your life?

Do you have a Biblical worldview?

Do you have a life verse?

Mine is Philippians 1:27

What is your life purpose?

Something like…”To glorify God through knowing Him and making Him known to others”.

Having a God-centered life purposes helps you to make better decisions?

So, what reason do you have now for not making disciples?

Your reasons are nothing more than excuses and…

God doesn’t do excuses!
