This week, my family and I are taking a break from our normal routine. We flew out to Colorado to visit my sister and just have some good family time. I honestly thought that I would go crazy if I did not write this week. I have missed it but not as much as I thought. I have immensely enjoyed the time I have been able to spend with my wife, my two boys and my sister. I love watching Bryson’s face light up as he experiences new things and new places. That got me to thinking. Sometimes we get so caught up in doing that we lose focus on why we are doing what we are doing. I am a firm believer that everything we do as pastors, leaders, teachers should be done in such a way that people are pointed to Jesus. We need to slow down every once in a while and reevaluate why we are doing what we are doing. If Jesus is not the focus of our Bible studies, kid programs, sermons, worship, and service then either the program has to go or the person leading has to go. I do not mean that the lead person cannot serve again. On the contrary. The lead person needs time to rest, recharge, refocus and reconnect with the mission and vision that God gave them. We call this time of rest – sabbath. Every person that serves in a ministry position, whether paid or volunteer needs rest. We want our people on our team to be excited about serving the church not getting frustrated and burned out. I would like to invite you this week to just rest. Take some time to get out of your routine and have some time to refocus on Jesus and get reconnected with the direction he is taking you as a leader. Spend some time with your kids. Take your wife on a date. Take your family on a picnic to the park or just take a day off so they can enjoy being with you. Hope you are having a great week. Question: What is one way that you rest and refocus with the mission and vision God gave you?
