Notes for FaithPoint

faithpoint wallpaper 4This past Wednesday night we discussed praying Scripture. We talked about why it is important and we looked up and prayed Scripture over each other. It was a great night.

In case you were not able to take notes or you did not get an opportunity to write down all the verses that we used, here are the notes from our time together on Wednesday:

Prayer: Week 1

Praying Scripture

As disciples of Jesus we are called to be conformed to his image. This is a process. You do not come to salvation and immediately you have reached your full potential as a disciple and you are fully conformed to the image of Jesus. It is a process.

Some of the marks of a disciple are:

  • obedience to Jesus and his word even when you don’t want to

  • the fruit of the spirit – Galatians 5:22

  • making disciples – Matthew 28:19-20

  • loving one another – John 13:35

  • giving – Matthew 6:1-4

  • prayer – Matthew 6:5-8

  • walking by faith; not by sight – 2 Cor. 5:7

  • living in the word – John 8:31

  • being controlled by the Holy Spirit – 2 Corinthians 5:14, Romans 8:9-11

Obedience to Jesus comes from your relationship with Jesus. Part of any relationship is communication. Prayer and reading the Bible is a disciple’s main form of communication with God. You pray to God, through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.

How you pray is directly related to what you believe to be true about God.

If you don’t believe that God is all sovereign, you will not pray like he is.

Most of the time, we treat God like he is distant, busy, easily irritated at our requests, not wanting to waste his time with us, and we treat God like he is not capable of answering our requests.

That is the farthest thing from the truth.

Remember, Jeremiah 17:9 – Pray that God will direct your heart and you will pursue Jesus and not your flesh.

Psalm 139:23-24 – Pray that God will show you what is wicked in you and what is in you that is not conformed to the image of Jesus. Pray that God will cause you to confess and repent and remove that which is blocking your progress in sanctification.

I pray Proverbs 31 over my wife.

I pray that Bryson and Luke will be Psalm 1 men.

Pray Scripture over yourself and over other people.

Pray: Matthew 22:37-40 – Pray that you will love God with all your being and that God will teach you how to love others the way that He loves them.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 – Pray that you would sow and reap bountifully and that God would make you a cheerful giver. Pray that God would bless you to be a blessing to others.

Matthew 28:19-20 Pray that God would make you a disciple maker.

Acts 1:8 – Pray that everywhere your foot touches the ground, you realize that you are a missionary and no matter where you go in the world – you are on mission…the mission of Christ.

Acts 17:11 – Pray that you would be like the Berean Christians and that God would put a hunger, passion, desire in you to want to be in His Word everyday.

Acts 18:24 – Pray that you would be like Apollos and be competent in the Scriptures.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 – Pray that God would use you in such a way that you would be an instrument used to lead many people to Jesus.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 – Pray that God would remove your heart of stone and soften your heart and humble you.

Joshua 1:6 – Pray that God would make you to be strong and courageous.

Joshua 1:8 – Pray that the words of Scripture would always be on your lips and that what comes out of your mouth will come from the overflow of Scripture stored in your heart.

Joshua 10:12 – Pray bold and audacious prayers.

Acts 4:28-30 – Pray for FaithPoint to have boldness. Also pray that FaithPoint has confidence rooted in Jesus and we will boldly proclaim the gospel and the fame of Jesus in our city.
