This needs to be addressed. It needs to be talked about in the pulpit as well as the home. Dads, you must lead the way in the conversation.
Be proactive. Being passive is the same thing as sitting on the curb waiting to be devoured by the lion.
John Owen the great Puritan Theologian said, “Be killing sin or sin will be killing you.”
Sex – the most loving and intimate act that God designed specifically for a husband and wife is also the same act that is the most perverted, distorted, and twisted by our world.
Sex is the least talked about subject in churches. Sex is not evil. Sex is not ugly. The perversion of it IS evil and ugly. Sex is beautiful.
This IS a spiritual issue. Lust is a hidden sin that most people keep tucked away from being revealed to others. They think that they can entertain it every once in awhile and still retain control over it to keep it from getting out of control.
Lust invites you to consume it. Eat at its table. Feast upon what it has to offer. It is a free all you can eat buffet. It does not and will not satisfy. That is because it was never designed to.
Porn and any other perversion of sex will destroy your life. Men – Getting married does not make it go away.
Women – This is not just a man issue. 40% of online porn is consumed by women.
Pastors – Without friends and accountability, pastors are very susceptible to falling. If pastors lower their guard even for a second, the enemy can sucker punch them.
The sin most people refuse to repent of is the perversion of sex. They refuse accountability, they refuse confession, they refuse to repent, they refuse help.
Colossians 3:5-7 says, “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.
Paul provokes the Colossians to kill sin – sin is the great obstacle to seek the things that are above.
Since we are to seek heavenly things, it makes sense to kill, destroy, put to death – the things which naturally incline our hearts to the things of this world.
In other words:
STOP SEEKING PLEASURE IN WHAT IS PERVERTED! You cannot find pleasure in what is perverted and find pleasure in Christ at the same time.
The sins Paul mentions are the same sins done by the children of disobedience – people who refuse to obey God. What happens to them? God pours his wrath out on them. God is Holy. Holiness and sin cannot be friends. They cannot even live in the same house. Stop trying to rationalize or justify sin.
The key to all of this is verse 5. Put it to death.
KILL IT – PUT IT TO DEATH!!! Pull the trigger, suffocate it until it stops breathing, cut its throat. KILL SIN! Don’t play. Kill it as violently as possible because it is trying to kill you just as hard as you are trying to kill it. Fight sin like you are fighting for your life…because you are.
If somebody was trying to kill you, you would fight them back to try and stay alive.
It is stupid to walk in mud and not expect to get any on you.
