Sermon Notes for FaithPoint

Greetings FaithPoint,

You may have heard by now of the terrible event that took place in Las Vegas. A man opened fire on people who were attending an outdoor concert. Over 58 people have been reported dead with many more injured. There are no words to describe the pain and heartache people are feeling when they find out that they have lost a spouse, or kids find out that they lost a parent. Friends and family members will find out that a person they loved is dead. Please join me in praying for the victims and their families who were greatly affected by this horrific event. Pray for the churches in the area who are reaching out with the love of Jesus to offer help to those families. Pray for Las Vegas.

This is Week 13 in our Building Blocks series.

What are you devoted to?

What are the most important things in your life?

What you desire the most is what you truly treasure. For most people who call themselves Christians, where is the evidence that they truly desire Jesus?

We saw from our Faith Works series that the Bible says in James 1:22, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

The lack of obedience in a Christian’s life is tied to their being biblically illiterate.

The whole meaning behind this text is to let us know that doing what the Bible says is how you show that you understand it, that you “got it.” A person that says they love God but not doing what He says is a person that continuously walks in disobedience.

Call it devotion, call it delight. There are people in this room and people watching on Facebook that need to hear again what the Bible says about our love for God. You cannot separate your love of God from obedience to His word. Your obedience is proof that you walk by faith and not by sight.

Psalm 34:8 – “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”

How do you know that you have tasted and seen that the LORD is good?

It’s like your favorite burger or steak. You remember the restaurant. You remember if you were with someone or by yourself. You remember what you ordered and how it looked when it was placed in front of you. You can recall how you put the steak in your mouth and it melted like butter. It was cooked to perfection. You can recall almost everything about that experience.

The same thing happens with God. You can recall when he delivered you out of a sin. You can recall the day you were saved. You can recall when he intervened in a troubling situation in your life. You can recall when he comforted you. You can recall when you experienced revival in your soul. You can recall when you felt alive like you were on fire. You can recall the peace you felt when you rested in the arms of your Shepherd.

Why would you ever want to leave that?

Has it been awhile since you have experience that peace?

Has it been awhile since you experienced that fire and revival in your soul?

If your soul feels like it is experiencing a drought, it is because the sheep has strayed from the Shepherd.

Did you fall for distraction or temptation? Did you see something that called out to you that made you think for a moment that it was better than Jesus?

Taste and see again. Don’t just hear the word. Fall head over heels in love with Jesus and do what he says. Your obedience is not out of obligation. It is out of love. Your obedience is your response to the grace, mercy, peace and forgiveness that he pours out to you on a daily basis.

Psalm 19 says that, the law of the LORD is desired more than fine gold and is sweeter than honey.

Psalm 1 The godly man takes delight in the Word of God

Psalm 119:11, 15-20, 24-32

Joshua 1:8

We believe in Sola Scriptura. We believe that there is no truth higher than God’s truth and He communicates that through his word. His word is our highest authority (not just the red letters)

The Bible is our source for how to live a godly life.
