Sermon Notes for FaithPoint

Greetings FaithPoint!

I hope that you are having a wonderful week. I pray that as you read these notes, you study the Scriptures and it emboldens you to live the life that God has created you to live.

The sermon title is: The Bible As Our Protection.

The problem in our lives is not that God has not told us his will. Our problem is us. Jeremiah 17:9

We struggle to embrace and obey the Scriptures. We say that we love and want to obey the Scripture, when in reality we are looking for a loophole.

We are looking for a way out. Why? Why would a Christian be looking for a way out? Because…for example –

A child hears what their parent says but because they don’t want to do what their parents said, the child acts like they didn’t hear it in the first place.

In the same way, our hearts are just as stubborn. Because we find some portions of Scripture difficult, it is easier to think of it as unclear. Then we try to form a rationalization – thinking that if we don’t understand it – we don’t have to obey it.

God did not give us His Word to confuse or confound us. However, now that we know that the will of God is the Word of God, obeying Scripture is now a little more simple. Simple. Not easy.

The guidelines of Scripture protect us. Psalm 16:6-11

David speaks of these lines: boundaries. These boundary lines are the fence in which we are to live, work, and play. Inside the fence is where our Shepherd is.

Jesus came to give us life so that we could live it to the full. However, instead of living this full and phenomenal life that Jesus says you have – people decide to make decisions and actions contrary to God’s Word that makes them outside of the fence.

Outside the fence – darkness

Obeying Scripture – inside the fence

Inside the fence there is direction, contentment, joy, peace, love, and grace.

These things are not found outside Scripture – outside the fence.

When we choose to ignore the protection of Scripture – it’s climbing over the fence into the darkness. Every time you leave the guidelines of Scripture, you can expect bad results.

There is no escaping that God has called us to operateĀ  – live our lives obeying Scripture inside the guidelines given to us in the Bible.

Joshua 1:9, Psalm 1:2, Psalm 119:11, Psalm 34:8, Proverbs 31:30

How many times when you have experienced pain has it been the result of choices that you made? These choices placed you outside the fence. You can’t dig your own hole and then blame the shovel.

We are meant to walk – live inside the protection of the Bible.

God’s sovereign will offers abundant life only when we live within the guidelines of Scripture.

Acts 13:47-48
